The Nexus is the collaborative learning lab at the Ruth Lilly Medical Library. The concept behind the Nexus is a space where students, faculty, and staff can come together to share ideas and collaborate on projects. The Nexus also serves as a gateway for students to experience emerging technologies that are being incorporated into medical practice such as 3D Printing and Virtual Reality.

The Nexus is located within the 24/7 space in Room 207 and contains moveable furniture, an IQ Visualization Wall, two Media:Scapes, and a Reality Lab with four Virtual Reality stations. Due to the collaborative nature of the space, the Nexus is typically not reservable. A member of the Library Technology Team is generally available on-site to provide assistance Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm or email questions to the tech team at rlmltech@iu.edu.

Services and Equipment

IQ Visualization Wall

The IQ Wall is a collaboration between the library and the UITS Advanced Visualization Lab. The IQ Wall has a 7680 x 2160 resolution, more than 17 million pixels, and is 16 feet wide. All that screen real estate is great for group work and for visualizing large data sets. The IQ Wall is also touch enabled and is capable of displaying multiple computer sources at once utilizing Solstice. A video conferencing system with an auto tracking camera allows for collaboration with colleagues at IU School of Medicine’s campuses across the state.

There are three FDM printers (Makerbot Replicator 5th Generation, Ultimaker 3 Extended, and an Ultimaker 2 Go) as well as a Formlabs Form 2 SLA Printer. With some restrictions, prints are currently run at no charge for IU School of Medicine faculty, staff, and students. For more information about 3D printing in medicine, the 3D printing service, or to request a print, see the 3D Printing LibGuide or email the tech team at rlmltech@iu.edu.
