Characteristics of Entering Residents is available on the Careers in Medicine (CiM) Web site to aid students in determining their competiveness in a specialty. These reports present board scores, research, volunteer and work experiences, and other relevant qualifications of residents. The information comes from the AAMC’s ERAS and GME Track and from the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME). The data are presented for all first-year residents who entered residency during academic year 2012-2013, including those who successfully matched, entered through SOAP ®, or entered after match and SOAP, and represent “obtained specialty” as opposed to the NRMP “matched specialty.” Characteristics of Entering Residents, replaces the Charting Outcomes in the Match reports that have traditionally been a part of the Careers in Medicine site.
16 specialties are currently included:
- Emergency Medicine
- Family Medicine
- Internal Medicine
- Neurological Surgery
- Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Orthopaedic Surgery
- Pathology-Anatomic and Clinical
- Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
- Internal Medicine/Pediatrics
AAMC will be adding more specialties, fellowships, and additional information including charts over time. You can find the new Characteristics of Entering Residents in the medical specialties section of CiM (www.aamc.org/cim/specialty/list).
